I've been thinking about Vibram Five Fingers a lot since reading Chi Running and Born To Run and thinking about adjusting my running stride to get over this nagging injury that has kept me sidelined until this year from basically Sept 2007 until Jan 2011. (a long time!).
You can't read those books and think about changing your stride without considering the Five Fingers and I finally got an opporunity, via my favorite local outdoor/lifestyle store (Acadia on Main) to pick up a pair. I'd tried a pair on about 4 weeks ago and they just felt so strange, I had think about it. When I got 20% off and mulled it over for a month, I decided that yesterday was the day to pull the trigger.
After walking around the house in them for a couple of hours, I can't imagine running on pavement like they show a woman on the front of their home page, but who knows maybe I'll get there.
I think they are a training supliment, not the end all be all. As the Face of Pacers warned -- no more than 5-10 minutes on the first run, seriously. Which leads to an interesting dilema.
I'm barely able to find the 25 minutes a day to get in 3 miles, how am I going to shoehorn another 15 minutes (10 minutes of running, 5 mins of transition into my schedule).
