Nothing but fun

Foursquare is exploding and just can't get much hotter in the media. I've been doing it since October and there is only one way to put it -- it's fun for some strange and addictive reason.

But all of the sudden, after having the entire 'world' as my oyster and being the Mayor of just about whatever wherever I went, folks are catching on.  This morning, I got this note that bothered me waaaaay more than it should.

I know, I know, Zoolander is thinking it right now -- doesn't this guy have more things to worry about and I don't know how he has so much time on his hands to even think about junk like this.

Sometimes, at 3, there is nothing more exciting that being under the table while out to eat.

Dinner in Nuremburg

We decided to immediately go out to grab a bite to eat in the town square when I got there. Of course, as I’m on the way there, I have this realization that Aunt Ginger had mentioned to me several times that nothing is open on Sunday, and she kept saying ‘Nothing’ which is the realization that I have as I’m flying into Nuremburg – oh great, its Sunday –I wonder if anything will be open in this 24 hour trip of mine.

Turns out, the restaurants are mostly all open, so dinner and walking around (which is what we wanted to do anyways) was a OK.

We went to a great dinner spot and had a great Germany meal. Not necessarily traditional Germany food, but a very German looking place with great décor, etc. It was interesting that when we got there, at what I would say is a respectable 6 PM; there was no one in the restaurant. By the time we left, we were one of four tables sitting down.

 

Why NY is great

Went out on the town tonight and did a little tour of the old neighborhood. It was awesome and so much fun. However, what the heck happened to the Meat Packing district? Its insane how many people are out and about in that part of town and how much they've officially blocked off to traffic, much of it that was probably there so that trucks could turn around but now with so few meat packing plants, its just not necessary. I'd say the only disappointment in the night was the fact that 'Automatic Slims' was closed for a private party. Bummer. Would have been good to get back there because its been a while but we managed to make due.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Grr. This sucks. Bad subway karma and I just missed the train and the next one isn't for 50 minutes. Its the worst gap that exists all day long and I hit the sweet spot. In particular troubling because I've got to be back here in 8 hours.

The World Cup

The World Cup only comes around ever 4 years and people are fanatics about it. Given the heavy spanish speaking population aroung these parts, I figured that it was definitely worth going out to catch the Mexico opener.

First place, a sports bar, was closed. I'm not sure if it was closed, closed, but closed none the less. So I zipped down the street to a South of the Border type of place. And there were a handful of people watching the game on Univision. Nice -- exactly what I was looking for. And they were into it so I settle down to watch the second half.

I was so bummed however, when half the crew left (that was OK with me) and the other two guys in the bar, the bartender included, figured out that I didn't speak Spanish -- they turned the channel over to ABC, just for me. And while I was very flattered that they were willing to be so accommodating, I felt kind of bad that they did so.

Day Out on the Town

Woot! Big day out for S, D and me. Our first trip out for a meal to the Patio. Dylan was a champ, sleeping the entire time and this place is definitely going to be our 'new' go to place. They love us there. Shannon met some of the staff while starting her maternity leave before Dylan showed up and they were thrilled to meet both of us.

It's kind of like the Crooked Lake, but with a little better menu and decour.

Movie Night

Moivie Night. I'm beat and just wanted to relax a bit. Syrina was the flick of choice -- which at the time walking out I thought sucked, but thought about it some more and really enjoyed it more than I thought I originally did.

Guy with the EMO Glasses?

I love P.J. Clarke's. Every since my 1st trip to NYC and my Mom's college roommates husband took us there proclaiming they have 'the best burgers in New York', I've always loved it. Last night, an extremely chipper and happy hostess was managing the crowded scene and I noticed that she would write down a description of the person so she could find them.

After mentioning that to my buddy, he couldn't help but ask how she described me.

EMO Glasses.. I'm so emotional I can't handle it.

Love when Random things happen again

So a couple of weeks ago, on the way home from BAM for the third (and unfortunately unsuccessful) time, I sat across the subway car at 10:45 at night from a really high strung looking Investment Banker type.  I was thinking about it and I had already had an evening of adventure and while occasionally I wish I had the $$$ of an investment banker, I've never wanted or thought about entertaining the lifestyle. I snuck a couple of pictures of the guy on my camera phone to post a 'Man, I'm glad I'm not that guy' type of story.

Well, my phone blew up, the pictures were blown away and the thoughts along with them.

Sure enough, last night, after my 'MTA is so nice' experience, I got off the train and bumped right back into that same guy again.  Still in his three piece suit and this time it was 11:45. What a drag.
